Xalapa, Ver., jueves 06 de febrero de 2025.– Gracias a un diagnóstico oportuno en atención primaria, especialistas del Centro de Alta Especialidad (CAE) Dr. Rafael Lucio realizaron con éxito la primera cirugía fetal en Veracruz, interviniendo a una paciente con 26.2 semanas de gestación para corregir un caso de mielomeningocele (espina bífida).
La paciente, María Guadalupe Espinoza Hernández, de 33 años y originaria de Las Vigas de Ramírez, fue referida al CAE, donde se confirmó la malformación fetal y se le brindó información sobre la posibilidad de una intervención quirúrgica.
Paralelamente, recibió atención en la consulta de embarazo de alto riesgo y fue monitoreada por especialistas en neurología debido a su diagnóstico de epilepsia.
“La cirugía fetal tiene distintos objetivos, como tratamiento, prevención y paliación. No todas las pacientes son candidatas, ya que deben cumplir criterios médicos y quirúrgicos muy específicos”, explicó la jefa del Servicio de Ginecología del CAE, Berenice Venegas Espinoza.
En tanto la subespecialista en Medicina Materno-Fetal, América Pérez, destacó la importancia del diagnóstico temprano. “Este caso se identificó en el primer trimestre, entre las semanas 11 y 13, periodo clave para la detección de malformaciones congénitas y la toma de decisiones médicas oportunas”.
A nivel institucional, la cirugía fetal no es común en México debido a su alto costo, en Veracruz, se llevó a cabo por primera vez en un hospital público gracias al apoyo de la Secretaría de Salud, la infraestructura hospitalaria y el equipo de especialistas del CAE.
“Gracias a Dios todo salió bien, espero que más mujeres tengan acceso a este tipo de atención, porque es un procedimiento muy caro y aquí me lo brindaron sin costo”, expresó María Guadalupe, quien se encuentra en recuperación en el área de Gineco-Obstetricia.
