Coatzacoalcos, Ver., 15 de Agosto del 2024.- Continúa recalando hidrocarburo a la playa de Coatzacoalcos, con la llegada del producto también está arribando gran cantidad de lirio acuático y palotada. Ante este escenario, el director de Protección Civil, David Esponda exhorta a la población que acude a recoger leña a las playas, no llevarse los troncos contaminados para evitar incidentes en sus hogares.
Explicó que en esta temporada es común que personas acudan a recoger estos troncos para utilizarlos en sus hogares, sin embargo ante la presencia del chapopote, dijo que es importante que la conozcan que puede ser riesgoso llevarse la madera contaminada.
“Hay personas que llegan y se llevan troncos o maderas que bajan del río. Si están contaminados, lo más recomendable es que esos restos de árboles no los lleven a sus domicilios, es peligroso y contaminante.
Además, muchas veces esta madera la utilizan para cocinar y podría provocar un incidente mayor”, advirtió.
La advertencia cobra mayor relevancia considerando que la leña contaminada con hidrocarburo no solo es un riesgo ambiental, sino también un peligro para la salud de quienes la manipulan y la emplean en sus actividades cotidianas. El director de Protección Civil también pidió a la población extremar precauciones, porque entre la maleza arriban animales ponzoñosos.
Se desconoce de dónde proviene
Desde el 1 de agosto se reportó la presencia de hidrocarburo en la playa de Coatzacoalcos, lo que presuntamente es chapopote no sólo cubrió la maleza acuática, sino que también formó pequeñas y grandes acumulaciones que se extendieron en casi 8 kilómetros de la playa.
A pesar de la magnitud del problema, las autoridades ambientales no han emitido ningún comunicado sobre el origen de este chapopote. El impacto ambiental es evidente: la semana pasada se encontró una cría de tortuga muerta, envuelta en este contaminante.
Alejandro Cepeda, un ambientalista local, subrayó el grave daño que estos residuos están causando a la biodiversidad.
“Se desconoce de dónde emana, pero es algo que está afectando al Golfo de México; Tabasco, Campeche, Tamaulipas, Veracruz y tenemos muchos problemas por esta situación, todo este petróleo o residuos de petróleo que llegan al mar o a las playas, causan un impagado negativo y atentan contra la biodiversidad.
Hemos detectado estos residuos en 8 kilómetros de playa, pero si recorremos más seguro encontraremos la misma situación”, comentó.
